Chase N. Cashe photographed by Chandler Easley of CherryCo. Music for The Heir Up There.

In an era of disposability where millions of images are taken, posted on the internet, and equally soon forgotten the process of image creation is really quite lost.  In late August, 2011 with my Polaroid 195 Land Camera and 2 boxes of FP-100B instant film Chase and I created the imagery for the long awaited and DJ Drama hosted, The Heir Up There.

Below (Or above on most Tumblr’s) are the actual polaroids themselves unretouched/processed as they exist today, a set of about dozen 3.25” x 4.25” black and white photographic prints. Each one taken and chemically processed until the print is pealed apart from the film and chemistry about 30 seconds later, the process is slow and tedious shot by shot. The polaroids themselves in conjunction with the crisp/hard light from my Profoto Hardbox create a naturally raw effect many people spend hours creating in photoshop.

The cover image of Chase exhaling smoke and seated was chosen by Chase virtually on the spot, and in post-production removed from the polaroid framing and contrast adjusted so white text could be set on it… Regardless of the shelf life of mixtapes or contemporary music as a whole, these polaroids serve as literal documents of an evolving artist/producer and cementing his place in culture and that in physical form stand the test time well beyond Tumblr and the internet.

Look for Chase N. Cashe on The Club Paradise Tour with Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and ASAP Rocky starting Tuesday in Miami, FL.
